Who Is Rickey Smiley?

Born on August 10, 1968, in Birmingham, Alabama, Rickey Smiley was raised in a single-parent household along with his mother and five siblings. He attended Alabama State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Smiley’s career as a comedian took off in 1992 when he appeared on the nationally syndicated talent show “Star Search.” From there, he went on to perform stand-up comedy at various venues throughout the country, solidifying his reputation as a premier comedian of his generation.

In 2000, Smiley launched “The Rickey Smiley Morning Show,” a nationally syndicated radio program that has since become one of the most popular urban morning shows in the US. The show has earned numerous accolades, including the NAB Marconi Radio Award for Syndicated Personality of the Year.

In addition to his radio show, Smiley has also hosted several TV programs, including “Comic View” (BET) and “Rickey Smiley for Real” (reality TV). He has appeared in several films and TV shows, such as “Top Five,” “Friday After Next,” and “The Rickey Smiley Show.”

Rickey Smiley has four children and has also adopted 1 more. His biological children are D’Essence Elizabeth, who is 25, Malik and Aaryn Smiley, who are both 21, and Brandon.

On January 29, 2023, Rickey Smiley announced his son, Brandon Smiley, had passed away. Rickey’s daughter Aaryn Smiley was shot during a road rage incident. She has recovered from the injury. She was travelling to a restaurant alongside her boyfriend when an assailant opened fire. This is what she said about that incident.

“The fact that the bullets that went through my legs were armored rifle bullets made to go through anything (how they got through the car) but the one that would have hit me in the head was not that kind and ended up lodged in the car. Words can’t describe how grateful I am to be alive write now.”
