McDonald’s fans are lovin’ it.
Seven years after discontinuing the fan-favorite menu item, McDonald’s is planning on bringing snack wraps back.
McDonald’s USA President Joe Erlinger confirmed Wednesday that the Snack Wrap will return — but as an updated version.
The Snack Wraps will be part of the fast food chain’s McCrispy (previously called the “Crispy Chicken Sandwich”) line.
According to a news release, the McCrispy will be offered in “nearly all markets” around the world in 2025, and will eventually expand to include tenders and, you guessed it, wraps.
McDonald’s said in the release that the size of its chicken business is now on par with beef, and they will “aggressively expand through billion-dollar equities including McNuggets, McChicken, McCrispy and McSpicy.”
The McCrispy, a fried chicken sandwich, is topped with crinkle-cut pickles and served on a toasted, buttered potato roll, the website says.
Unfortunately, there’s no specific release timeline for the new and improved Snack Wrap.
When asked about the return of snack wraps during the Investor Update Q&A, Erlinger said, “If you think it about in the US business we have three really strong chicken brands between McChicken, Chicken McNuggets and obviously McCrispy. But McCrispy we’re in the early days, really building that brand and so looking forward, will we eventually have a crispy tender? Yes. And will that allow us to eventually have a McCrispy snack wrap? Yes. But we’re still in the early days of doing that.”
The original Snack Wraps that McDonald’s lovers remember consisted of chicken, lettuce, shredded cheese and sauce wrapped in a warm tortilla.
Other than the fact that the McCrispy chicken tender will serve as a base for the wrap, there will allegedly be other changes as well.
The return of the snack wraps comes amid other big changes over at the Golden Arches, including a makeover to their classic burgers, making them juicier — with over 50 modifications — as well as enlarging the burger size.
The fast food chain plans to open 9,000 new locations worldwide by 2027.
In four years, there will be 50,000 McDonald’s restaurants, the company said in its announcement on Tuesday — about 9,000 more than it currently has spread across 118 countries, CNBC reported.
McDonald’s is also introducing a spinoff restaurant called CosMc’s — offering teas, lemonades, coffee brews and frappes, such as the “Churro Frappe” — thought to be a competitor to Starbucks.
